While Mallorca can transmit images of sun, sea, beach and mass tourism, there is much to enjoy and it is immediately obvious to anyone who comes to the island by air, overlooking the spectacular mountains many.
Mallorca has two mountain ranges with more than five peaks over 1000 meters high. Depending on skill level, you can opt for a leisurely walk, suitable for children, increased rigor for more advanced hikers, or raise a challenge that should only be treated with the proper equipment and a mountain guide who knows the field.
There are organized walk incl. housing and daily walks on various routes, or may choose to book a day tour or mountain in its own way. Whatever the choice, it is always advisable to have a guide or map of the route with you. There are many detailed maps with route descriptions and adventure hiking, as well as anecdotes and pictures. If you walk on your own, keep in mind that almost all mountain areas in private hands, with more than 800 years the island was divided into private property. The current initiative of the Government of the Balearic Islands has plans to provide financial support to private landowners if they allow visitors to your property, and the money goes directly to the protection of nature island.The spectacular Tramuntana extends from the northwest island to the north.
It is the highest peak, Puig Major, 1445 m, and also the famous mountain canyon Torrent Pareis. To the east is the Sierra de Llevant, with its hills, mountains over 500 meters, and cliffs. Both mountains have good access roads and paths and trails can often be so labeled. Pay attention to the proper shoes, choosing a good sturdy shoes or hiking boots, depending on terrain. The north and northwest of the island are ideal for walkers.
Lluc – There are plenty of walks in the area from easy to challenging. Escorca – Just past the address Lluc Pollensa. You can stop for a delicious Sunday lunch (roast lamb or rabbit with onions is delicious), after a walk through the valley. For serious hikers, this is the beginning of the track Sa Calobra. Be sure to check the water level before the walk as heavy rains mean that you may have to swim underwater to continue their journey.
There are some lovely walks around it. A perfect place for a champagne picnic on a sunny winter day.
